چکیده

Expanding upon the IRAC survey from Dahm and Hillenbrand (2007), we describe Spitzer IRAC and MIPS observations of the populous, 5 Myr-old open cluster NGC 2362. We analyze the mid-IR colors of cluster members and compared their spectral energy distributions to star+circumstellar disk models to constrain the disk morphologies and evolutionary states. Early/intermediate-type confirmed/candidate cluster members either have photospheric mid-IR emission or weak, optically-thin infrared excess emission at λ ≥ 24 μm consistent with debris disks. Few late-type, solar/subsolar-mass stars have primordial disks. The disk population around late-type stars is dominated by disks with inner holes (canonical ’transition disks’) and ’homologously depleted’ disks. Both types of disks represent an intermediate stage between primordial disks and debris disks. Thus, in agreement with previous results, we find that multiple paths for the primordialto-debris disk transition exist. Because these ’evolved primordial disks’ greatly outnumber primordial disks, our results undermine standard arguments in favor of a . 10 year timescale for the transition based on data from Taurus-Auriga. Because the typical transition timescale is far longer than 10 yr, these data also appear to rule out standard UV photoevaporation scenarios as the primary mechanism to explain the transition. Combining our data with other Spitzer surveys, we investigate the evolution of debris disks around high/intermediatemass stars and investigate timescales for giant planet formation. Consistent with Currie et al. (2008a), the luminosity of 24 μm emission in debris disks due to planet formation peaks at ≈ 10–20 Myr. A Spitzer Study of Debris Disks in the Young Nearby Cluster Ngc 2232: Icy Planets Are Common around 1.5y3 M Stars

We describe Spitzer IRAC and MIPS observations of the nearby 25 Myr old open cluster NGC 2232. Combining these data with ROSATAll-Sky Survey observations, proper motions, and optical photometry/spectroscopy, we construct a list of highly probable cluster members. We identify one A-type star, HD 45435, that has definite excess emission at 4.5Y24 m indicative of debris from terrestrial planet for...

Initial Conditions of Planet Formation: Lifetimes of Primordial Disks

The statistical properties of circumstellar disks around young stars are important for constraining theoretical models for the formation and early evolution of planetary systems. In this brief review, I survey the literature related to ground-based and Spitzer-based infrared (IR) studies of young stellar clusters, with particular emphasis on tracing the evolution of primordial (“protoplanetary”...

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I

We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...

The Monitor project : the search for transits in the open cluster NGC 2362

We present the results of a systematic search for transiting planets in a ∼5 Myr open cluster, NGC 2362. We observed ∼1200 candidate cluster members, of which ∼475 are believed to be genuine cluster members, for a total of∼100 hours. We identify 15 light curves with reductions in flux that pass all our detection criteria, and 6 of the candidates have occultation depths compatible with a planeta...
